I expected to show up to Annie’s to find her in another sexy dress, but instead, she’s wearing worn clothes and looking distraught enough to activate my protective instincts. Something is clearly wrong, and she tries to put on a brave face, but her voice falters. I soon realize she hasn’t eaten all day due to whatever’s got her down.

Any disappointment over not getting her back on a dance floor disappears, and all I want to do is make sure she’s all right. Keeping an eye on her while I whip her up an omelet, I can see she’s on edge but is slowly letting herself relax as I tell her some of the dumb things we do at the station during a slow spell. I’m glad to see her less upset, but something is still very wrong, something she either can’t or won’t share. I won’t push her to, either. It’s a bit surprising how much I want to soothe her. I came over looking for a good time with an amazing woman, now all I want is to make her smile.

A few strands of hair fall across her face as she takes her first bite, and I can’t stop from reaching across the table to tuck them behind her ear. Her cheek is warm and smooth, and my fingers trail down the side of her jaw as I marvel at how damn pretty she is.

She sets down her fork and pushes her plate aside, a sudden hunger in her eyes that has nothing to do with the meal. My body instantly responds, completely in tune with her desires because I want her just as much. More. Even while staying busy at work all day, she’s been on my mind, the memory of her skin under my fingertips driving me to distraction multiple times. It’s a good thing there were no real emergencies today.

The next thing I know, she leans across the table, taking my face in her hands. I meet her lips with mine, tangling my fingers in her hair. Within seconds, the table is too much to have between us, and I stand, barely breaking our connection until I’m only inches away and dragging her close to me.

She sighs happily, as if this is what she’s been waiting for all day. It’s certainly what I’ve been craving. Her breath comes faster as I rub her back, then run my hands under her oversized top to find nothing but bare skin underneath. The memory of her naked body against mine the night before and the thought of baring her completely make me growl as I push the t-shirt up. She lets go of me long enough to raise her arms, so I can get it over her head, and tries to grab me close again. But I hold her still by her shoulders, taking in her small, pert tits. Her nipples harden under my gaze, and I cup each one, stroking the tight nubs until she shivers.
